Canadian Pacific Holiday Train may not be stopping locally this year, but is still raising funds to benefit food pantries with December 12 virtual concert

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced Canadian Pacific (CP) to forego its annual Holiday Train journey this year that has made stops in both Lansing and New Albin in Allamakee County the past several years. Not wanting to completely cancel the event and all its beneficial good will, Canadian Pacific has, instead, opted to pursue a more virtual avenue with both its musical performances and its fundraising that have been part of the Holiday Train’s annual trek during the holiday season.

Musical performers Serena Ryder and The Trews will headline CP’s 2020 “Holiday Train at Home” concert, which will stream on CP’s Facebook page this Saturday, December 12. The event will raise money and awareness and help local food banks collect much-needed donations this year.

Wisconsin Highway 35 now open from Genoa to Stoddard

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced that the Highway 35 project between Genoa and Stoddard has now been completed, and within its scheduled timeframe. The 6.8-mile segment of that highway was closed beginning in April of this year.

The DOT said the $14.4 million project involved resurfacing the highway, replacing four bridges, and extensive road work within the community of Stoddard, resulting in lengthy detours. While the road is now open to traffic, Wisconsin DOT officials say there are still a few days left of clean-up work and equipment removal by workers. Drivers are urged to be aware of their presence around the highway and to travel the roadway safely.
