Waukon softball team wins at 12th-rated Charles City, splits with Decorah at home

The Waukon softball team started its past week off with its biggest win of the season, but gradually tapered off to just two wins in five games played. That big initial win was a 6-5 triumph at then Class 4A 12th-rated Charles City Monday, June 20 before the Indians split at home with Decorah Wednesday, June 22, falling by a 6-2 count before rallying for a 9-8 nightcap victory to stay one game ahead of the Vikings in the Northeast Iowa Conference standings. The softball Tribe then ventured to Decorah Saturday, June 25 for a weekend tournament, falling in two games, 11-1 in five innings to Perry and 12-4 to Turkey Valley.

The Kee softball team competed in a very busy week of eight games this past week, posting a marked degree of success in winning six of those eight games. The Hawks started the week by continuing their Upper Iowa Conference dominance with yet another doubleheader sweep with 12-0 triumphs in just four and three innings at Central Elkader Monday, June 20. Kee then also swept New Hampton on the road Tuesday, June 21 by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 4-2 before suffering a rare weekday loss, 5-3, at Sumner-Fredericksburg Wednesday, June 22. The Hawk diamond dwellers then played to a third-place finish at the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 25, defeating Turkey Valley, 10-0, in five innings in the opening round before falling to Perry, 10-0, in six innings and then defeating Central Elkader, 14-2, in five innings in the consolation finals.

Kee softball to begin postseason tournament play at home July 6

The Kee softball team will be playing its entire Class 1A Region 3 Tournament schedule on its home field, receiving a first-round bye before beginning with a quarterfinal match-up in New Albin Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. against the winner of a first-round match-up between Turkey Valley and Riceville. The quarterfinal winner will then move on to a Friday, July 8 regional semifinal contest also to be played at New Albin beginning at 7 p.m. That semifinals opponent will emerge from first-round match-ups featuring Janesville vs. Central Elkader and Dunkerton vs. Edgewood-Colesburg.

Kee baseball team continues UIC roll, wins five of busy seven-game slate this week

The Kee baseball team played through a busy, seven-game schedule this past week, maintaining its supremacy in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play before winning just one of three contests during the weekend. The Hawks rolled over a winless Postville team, 14-0 and 18-1, in mercy-rule wins Monday, June 20 before also handling Turkey Valley in UIC play, 10-1 and 5-1, Thursday, June 23. The Hawks were dealt their first loss of the week, 13-10, at Class 1A eighth-rated Coon Rapids-Bayard Friday, June 24 before splitting two games at Glidden Ralston Saturday, June 25, including a 4-0 loss to Osceola-Clarke and a 6-5 win over Glidden-Ralston.

Waukon softball team battles pair of ranked NEIC foes in playing through winless week

The Waukon softball team battled through a winless week, one of those losses coming to Mother Nature with the cancellation, due to stormy weather, of a Tuesday, June 14 non-conference game at North Fayette that has not been rescheduled as of yet. Three of the four losses suffered by the Indians on the field were dealt by Northeast Iowa Conference teams rated within the top 15 of their respective class, including defeats of 10-4 and 9-4 at Class 3A 12th-rated Crestwood Monday, June 13 and a 5-1 loss at Class 4A fourth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday, June 15. The softball Tribe wrapped up its winless week with a 7-1 loss at Osage Thursday, June 16 in non-conference play.

Kee baseball team handed first UIC loss during week resulting in 3-2 record

The Kee baseball team had its undefeated Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) season brought to an end but won three of its battles during a five-game slate this past week. The Hawks opened the week remaining undefeated in UIC play with victories of 7-1 and 9-1 over MFL/MarMac Monday, June 13 before being paid back at Clayton Ridge Wednesday, June 15 for a pair of one-run victories earlier in the season with a 5-4 loss for Kee’s only UIC blemish so far this season. The Hawks then hosted Central City Saturday, June 18 in a non-conference doubleheader, splitting that twinbill with a 7-2 victory being paired up with a 12-5 loss to the visiting Wildcats.

The Kee softball team kept its season-long trend on track this week, continuing to rule the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) with another pair of doubleheader sweeps in league play, and continuing to wage war against some of the top teams in much larger classes during weekend tournaments in an effort to keep improving as a team. The Hawks’ UIC dominance continued its undefeated streak with twinbill winnings of 8-0 and 12-1 in five innings at home over North Fayette Valley Monday, June 13 and 10-0 in five innings and 5-0 over Edgewood-Colesburg at home Wednesday, June 15.

Waukon baseball team plays through winless week against teams in top half of NEIC

The Waukon baseball team battled through a week on the road and without a win, falling in five games against teams all currently sitting in the top half of the Northeast Iowa Conference, including one currently ranked in the top five of Class 2A. The Indians also lost a non-conference game to Mother Nature, as they were rained out of a Tuesday, June 14 road date at Osage that has not been rescheduled at this point.

The Tribe’s troublesome road trip got its start Monday, June 13 with a doubleheader at Oelwein that got into just four innings of game one before being rained out to a Thursday, June 16 make-up date, where the Indians fell by scores of 11-1 and 10-0 in five innings. The road did not get any friendlier, as the Tribe was dealt a 10-0 loss in six innings by Class 2A third-rated New Hampton Wednesday, June 15 and then suffered losses of 10-5 and 11-6 at Crestwood Friday, June 17.

Waukon baseball team to host annual Jeff Houg Tournament this Saturday

The Waukon baseball team is scheduled to host its own annual Jeff Houg Tournament this Saturday, June 25. The Indians will begin the tournament at 10 a.m. with a first-round game against South Winneshiek, with Osage and Waterloo Columbus matching up in the second first-round game scheduled for 12 noon. The two first-round losing teams will play a consolation contest at 2 p.m., with the two winning teams slated to square off at 4 p.m. for the tournament championship.
