Waukon boys golf team ends up short of the win column in busy week of three dual meets

The Waukon boys golf team turned in another busy, three-event week of competition this past week, coming up shy in all three events to remain at just a single dual meet victory so far this spring. The Indians fell by a 154-177 final result in a Monday, April 18 home Northeast Iowa Conference contest against Decorah before narrowly suffering a similar fate, 183-185, at Caledonia, MN Tuesday, April 19. The Tribe linksters rounded out the week with a 363-394 loss at Charles City Friday, April 22 in a rare 18-hole match postponed from its original April 5 date due to inclement weather.

The Indians were scheduled to host another three dual meets this week, including Crestwood Monday, April 25, Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, April 26 and New Hampton Friday, April 29. The golf Tribe will then have just a Monday, May 2 road date at Oelwein on its schedule for next week.

Waukon boys track team finishes sixth at Decorah, second at Indian Relays

Pair of top-five field event finishes ...
Waukon boys track senior Michael Schulte unleashes a strong discus effort at the Tribe’s own Indian Relays home invitational meet Friday, April 22. Schulte’s discus effort of 122’4” earned him a fourth-place finish to complement his second-place result of 45’5” in the shot put, making him the highest overall placewinner and the only top-five finisher in both throwing field events. The Waukon boys track team didn’t have to travel too far this past week to compete, and turned in team finishes near the opposite ends of the spectrum. The Indians traveled to Decorah Monday, April 18 to post a sixth-place finish out of seven teams before hosting their own Indian Relays Friday, April 22 and finishing second out of six teams.

The Indians were scheduled to compete at Oelwein Tuesday, April 26. The Tribe will then wrap up its regular season the following week by competing at New Hampton Monday, May 2 and then hosting the Northeast Iowa Conference Co-Ed Meet Thursday, May 5, beginning at 5 p.m. The Indians will then vie for State Meet qualification Thursday, May 12 at North Fayette Valley.

Kee girls track team places fifth at Crestwood, wins home invitational

Third-place hurdle effort, and more ...

The Kee girls track team competed in a pair of meets this past week, putting forth some of its best efforts of the season. The Lady Hawks claimed a fifth-place finish on a cold, wet night at the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 19 before winning their own Kee Invitational Thursday, April 21.

“The girls took a big step forward this week,” Kee girls track coach Chad Winters said about his charges’ efforts. “Times are starting to drop and the weather is finally cooperating!”

The Lady Hawks were scheduled to compete in the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26 before competing at MFL/MarMac Thursday, April 28. The Kee track girls will then compete at the Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational Monday, May 2 before taking part in the Upper Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 5 at North Fayette Valley in West Union. Kee will then compete for State Meet qualification Thursday, May 12 at Edgewood-Colesburg.

The Kee boys track team wrapped up its busiest week of the season, competing in three meets this past week, including on back-to-back nights to end the week. The Hawks finished seventh in the large, 10-team Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational Monday, April 18 in a meet originally scheduled for April 5. Kee then placed sixth in both its own home invitational Thursday, April 21 and at the Waukon Invitational Friday, April 22.

The Kee track boys were scheduled to compete in the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26 before taking part in the Starmont Invitational Friday, April 29. The Hawks will then compete at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Monday, May 2 before taking part in the Upper Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 5 at North Fayette Valley in West Union. Kee will then compete for State Meet qualification Thursday, May 12 at Edgewood-Colesburg.

Waukon girls golf team swept in busy week against Decorah, Caledonia and S-F

The Waukon girls golf team battled through a busy week on the links this past week, falling in all three of its dual meets to remain at just a single win at the varsity level so far this spring. The Lady Indians suffered back-to-back losses to open the week, falling at Decorah Monday, April 18 by a 205-213 result before doing likewise in a home non-conference battle with Caledonia, MN Tuesday, April 19 by a 198-235 final count. The Tribe lady linksters then also fell by a score of 205-224 in another non-conference home meet with Sumner-Fredericksburg Friday, April 22 in an event rescheduled from its original April 8 date due to less than ideal weather conditions for golfing.

Brennan wins 800 for Kee track boys at both West Central and MFL/Mar Mac meets

800 meter winner, 400 meter runner-up ...
Kee boys track junior Danny Brennan battles this West Central runner down the homestretch of the 200 meter dash at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 14. Brennan finished fifth in the race, but led Kee’s scoring effort at the meet with a win in the 800 meter run in 2:12.74, a second-place finish in the 400 meter dash in 56.63 seconds, and a fourth-place high jump of 5’2”. The Kee boys track team finally broke a two-week lay-off from competition and also finally got its first taste of outdoor competition for the season with a pair of meets that were able to take place this past week. After having two weeks’ worth of meets canceled by the late return of winter weather, the track Hawks posted an eighth-place finish at the West Central Invitational hosted at Oelwein High School Monday, April 11 and finished fifth at the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 14.

The Kee track boys were scheduled to compete in the Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational Monday, April 18 before hosting their own home invitational Thursday, April 21 - details of which appear in a shaded box elsewhere on these Sports pages - and then competing in Waukon’s Indian Relays Friday, April 22. Kee will then take part in the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26 and the Starmont Invitational Friday, April 29.

Waukon boys track team claims third at Decorah, wins New Hampton Invite

The Waukon boys track team continued to show improvement, claiming a pair of top-three team finishes this past week. The Indians opened the week with a third-place finish at the Decorah Invitational Monday, April 11 before claiming the team title at the New Hampton Invitational Thursday, April 14.

The Indians were scheduled to return to Decorah for a third consecutive Monday meet April 18 before hosting their own Indian Relays Friday, April 22, details of which can be found in a shaded box elsewhere on these Sports pages. The track Tribe will then compete at Oelwein Tuesday, April 26.

Kee girls track team places fifth at West Central and Waukon, takes second at MFL/MarMac

Kee girls track sophomore Nicki Wood soars to a personal-best effort of 15’9” to claim second place in the long jump at the Waukon Early Bird Invitational Tuesday, April 12. In addition to her long jump effort, Wood also finished eighth in the 100 meter dash and helped Kee to third place in the 4x200 and fourth place in the sprint medley. Kee will then take part in the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26 before returning to MFL/MarMac Thursday, April 28.

Waukon golf girls pick up season’s first win in split of dual meet pair with Waverly-SR and MFL

The Waukon girls golf team experienced a pair of firsts for the season with its early-week dual meet pair this past week. The Indians competed in their first Northeast Iowa Conference Meet, suffering a 206-220 loss at Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, April 11, before securing their first dual meet victory of the season, a 203-244 triumph over MFL/MarMac at Luana Tuesday, April 12.
The Indians were scheduled to open this week with another pair of back-to-back meets, Monday, April 18 at Decorah and Tuesday, April 19 at home against Caledonia, MN. They will then make up their postponed April 8 home date with Sumner-Fredericksburg Friday, April 22 before playing at Crestwood Monday, April 25 and then at New Hampton Friday, April 29.

Waukon girls track team finishes third at own Early Bird, fourth at New Hampton Invitational

After a week idle from competition, the Waukon girls track team was able to get a pair of meets in this past week, including its own Early Bird Invitational, where the Lady Indians placed third out of seven teams. The track Tribe then finished fourth out of eight teams at the New Hampton Invitational Thursday, April 14.

The Indians were scheduled to compete at the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 19 before taking part in the North Fayette Invitational Thursday, April 21.
