The Kee football team had its hopes of staying alive for a seventh consecutive season of qualifying for the Eight-Player State Play-Offs brought to a halt Friday, October 16. Untimely injuries this season had put the football Hawks in a position of fighting for their play-off lives with two recent losses to Eight-Player District 4 opponents, and facing District 4’s cream of this season’s crop in undefeated and top-10 rated Central Elkader did the Hawks even fewer favors, as the visiting Warriors handed the host Hawks a 58-15 defeat to officially eliminate Kee from postseason play for the first time in the past seven seasons.

The Waukon football survived a dormant second half to outlast the visiting Sailors of Waterloo Columbus for a 30-27 Homecoming victory Friday, October 2. The Indians had rolled up 22 points in a productive second quarter to bolt to a 30-12 halftime advantage, but then silent on the offensive side of the ball for the entire second half, holding off a late Columbus charge during that same timeframe and surviving a potential game-tying field goal that missed its mark in the game’s final 1:20. The Tribe will head to New Hampton this Friday, October 9 to take on a Chickasaw team yet undefeated against District 3 opponents but sporting a 4-2 overall season record after a 40-13 victory at Oelwein this past Friday, October 2.
