Kee baseball team wins five of eight games

The Kee baseball team won five of its eight games this past week, piecing together four straight wins early in the week before winning just one of its final four contests to currently hold a 12-10 overall record that includes a mark of 4-4 in Upper Iowa Conference play. Kee’s early surge included sweeps at Sumner-Fredericksburg, 4-2 and 17-2, Monday, June 9 and at Lansing against Dunkerton, 8-0 and 11-1 in six innings, Tuesday, June 10. Kee was then swept at South Winneshiek, 6-2 and 13-11, Thursday, June 12 before splitting two games Saturday, June 14 at Charles City, defeating St. Ansgar, 5-1, and falling to the host Comets, 8-6.

Waukon softball team wins early, slides in latter part of the week

The busiest week of the season for the Waukon softball team saw the Indians double their win total for the season but only win three of their full slate of seven games. The Indians opened their week with back-to-back road wins, 8-5 at Decorah Monday, June 9 and 7-2 at South Winneshiek Tuesday, June 10, before having a third straight win snatched away in nine innings at home against Oelwein, 6-5, Wednesday, June 11. The Tribe then fell at Class 3A 12th-rated New Hampton, 14-4 in six innings, Thursday, June 12 before winning just one of three games at the Anamosa Tournament Saturday, June 14, falling to Cascade, 5-0, and Central City, 13-7, on each side of an 18-1 rout of Midland.

Kee softball team overcomes early loss to win five straight this past week

The Kee softball team suffered a narrow loss to begin this past week, but more than made up for it by blanking three of its opponents during a five-game winning streak to currently hold a 14-3 overall record, 9-1 in the Upper Iowa Conference. The Lady Hawks suffered that 3-2 loss at Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, June 9 before blasting those host Cougars, 10-0, in the nightcap of that twinbill. Kee then beat Class 3A ninth-rated Crestwood, 5-2, at Waukon Tuedsay, June 10 before sweeping South Winneshiek on the road, 16-3 in five innings and 9-0, Thursday, June 12. The Lady Hawks then wrapped up their week with an 8-0 win over St. Ansgar at the Riceville Tournament Saturday, June 14 before rain ended that event early.

Waukon baseball team adds one more game to the win column in four tries

As has been the case so far in this season’s early-going, the Waukon baseball team added just one game to the win column this past week, falling in three other contests throughout the week to currently hold a 3-10 record on the season with a 1-3 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play. The baseball Tribe split a home NEIC doubleheader with Charles City Tuesday, June 10, dropping a 9-0 decision before pulling off a 5-4 walk-off victory in the twinbill nightcap. The Tribe then fell at Turkey Valley, 16-6 in six innings, Wednesday, June 11 before losing a 13-1 decision at home to Decorah in five frames Friday, June 13.

Waukon softball team wins two of three at Charles City Tournament

The Waukon softball team wrapped up its past week on a fairly successful note after a more difficult middle of the week, playing to a current record of 3-7, including a yet winless mark of 0-4 in Northeast Iowa Conference play. The Indians fell just shy at MFL/MarMac, 2-1, Wednesday, June 4 before being swept in a home doubleheader by Charles City Thursday, June 5 by scores of 5-0 and 7-1. The most successful part of the week came at the Charles City Tournament Saturday, June 7, where the Indians defeated Belmond-Klemme, 13-1 in three innings, fell to Osage by a 7-4 count, and routed Forest City, 13-0 in five innings.

Kee softball team’s eight-game undefeated streak ended by big schools at NFV Tournament

The Kee softball team kept its early-season undefeated streak alive for most of this past week of competition, but was finally dealt its first losses of the season by some bigger schools, although by narrow margins of just two runs in each loss. The Lady Hawks remained perfect in Upper Iowa Conference play with back-to-back sweeps of league doubleheaders, 10-0 in five innings and 7-2 over Central Elkader at Waukon Monday, June 2 and then 6-1 and 18-1 in just three innings at Starmont Thursday, June 5. Kee then split four games at the North Fayette Valley Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, posting victories of 8-0 over Dyersville Beckman and 6-5 over Don Bosco, but suffering their first two losses of the season, 6-4 to Class 3A Monticello and 2-0 to Class 4A 11th-rated West Delaware.

Waukon baseball team wins one of four contests this past week

The Waukon baseball team added another game to the win column in four tries this past week, coming up just shy in some other contests to currently hold a 2-7 record on the season with a 0-1 start to its Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) season. The baseball Tribe lost a 10-0 NEIC opener in five innings at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 3 before being rained out in the second game of that originally scheduled doubleheader. The lone Indian win came Wednesday, June 4 at home over MFL/MarMac by a 5-4 count before the Indians came up short, 8-4 and 8-7, at home against Kee Friday, June 6.
The Indians were scheduled to host a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader with Charles City Tuesday, June 10 before playing at Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 11 and then at home against Decorah Friday, June 13. The Tribe will then host Oelwein Monday, June 16 before playing at New Hampton Wednesday, June 18, all three of those NEIC dates being varsity reserve/varsity match-ups.

Kee baseball team wins half of busy eight-game schedule this past week

The Kee baseball team played .500 baseball this past week to keep its overall season record at that same level at 7-7, including a 2-2 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play. The Hawks were swept in an Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader by Clayton Ridge/Central at Lansing Monday, June 2, 4-2 and 14-1, before returning that favor at both Starmont, 13-2 in six innings and 9-0 Thursday, June 5, and Waukon, 8-4 and 8-7 Friday, June 6. Kee was then swept in convincing fashion by a pair of top-five ranked opponents at Mason City Saturday, June 7, falling to Class 3A fourth-rated Clear Lake, 15-5 in six innings, and to Class 1A second-rated host school Mason City Newman, 17-2 in four frames.

Waukon baseball team starts 2014 season off with 1-4 record


Waukon baseball senior second baseman Tyler Benzing steps on second base to complete a double play that ended an early threat in the Indians’ 6-1 loss to open a home doubleheader sweep by identical scores suffered by the Tribe Friday, May 30 against Clayton Ridge/Central Elkader. With just one out and runners on first and second bases in the first frame, Benzing snagged a line drive out of the air for the second out and then beat this diving Clayton Ridge baserunner to second base to complete the double play and end the inning and the threat, the umpire pictured above confirming that result.

The Waukon baseball team saved its best for last in opening up its 2014 season with a 1-4 record this past week. The Indians suffered a 17-3 loss at home to North Fayette Valley in five innings to start the season Tuesday, May 27 before falling in a home doubleheader to Clayton Ridge/Central Elkader Friday, May 30 by identical scores of 6-1. The Tribe then played in Kee High School’s Shooky Fink Tournament in Lansing Saturday, May 31, falling in game one, 7-4, to Crestwood before posting its first win of the season, 13-6, over Nashua-Plainfield in the tournament’s consolation game.
The Indians were scheduled to play a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 3 before hosting MFL/MarMac Wednesday, June 4 and Kee Friday, June 6. The Tribe will then play host to Charles City Tuesday, June 10 before playing at Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 11.
