The Kee softball team played to its first undefeated week of the season, improving its Upper Iowa Conference winning streak to now 66 consecutive games with a sweep of two more league opponents this past week. Those sweeps included two 12-0 home thumpings of Postville in four mercy-rule innings each Monday, June 3 before the Lady Hawks also swept Clayton Ridge in a pair of road games Wednesday, June 5 by scores of 15-3 in five innings and 9-7. In between those two UIC twinbills Kee was supposed to also travel to Crestwood Tuesday, June 4 but had that game postponed by weather to a date yet to be rescheduled.

The Waukon baseball team brought an end to a recent 11-game slide with a win in the middle of a five-game schedule this past week, posting a 10-0 mercy-rule win in six innings over Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 5. On each side of that win, the baseball Tribe suffered a 6-0 loss at Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, June 3 and a 14-4 defeat in six innings to Oelwein at home Tuesday, June 4 before being swept in a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader at Decorah Friday, June 7 by scores of 13-3 in five innings and 15-0 in four frames.

The Kee baseball team played its way to its first undefeated week of the season, sweeping all four of its games this past week, all of them played on the road on just two different dates. The Hawks first kept their Upper Iowa Conference record unblemished with a Monday, June 3 sweep at Clayton Ridge by scores of 15-3 in six innings and 9-2. The Kee boys then traveled to St. Ansgar for a Saturday, June 8 three-team tournament, first defeating Charles City by a 4-3 result before doing likewise to the Class 1A ninth-rated host Saints by an 8-3 final result to win this year’s tournament title.

The Waukon baseball team played through a consistently busy week with five games played over four consecutive nights, with a single inning or play in a majority of those games making a difference between at least some of them ending up in the win column and the actual result of all five games missing that mark. Having the week book-ended with facing a pair of top 10-rated opponents in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians began the week with an 8-2 loss at Class 2A 10th-rated New Hampton Tuesday, May 28 before falling in the final inning at MFL/MarMac by an 8-7 final result Wednesday, May 29. A third consecutive road loss for the week, 7-4 at North Fayette Valley Thursday, May 30 in a make-up game from May 21, then gave way to the completing half of that high-end NEIC book-end, a pair of home losses to Class 3A ninth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock by just a 12-10 result in game one but by a 15-0 final count in four innings in the nightcap.

The Kee baseball team played to a nearly perfect week on the diamond, opening its Upper Iowa Conference schedule with final result perfection in winning four of five games this past week. That initial Upper Iowa Conference sweep came at home against MFL/MarMac by scores of 6-0 and 6-3 Tuesday, May 28 before the Hawks ventured on an overnight road trip that began at AGWSR with a 6-1 victory Friday, May 31. That road trip wrapped up in Newell-Fonda Saturday, June 1, where the Kee baseball boys took on two other teams that had just one loss so far on this young season. The Hawks first fell to Kingsley-Pierson, 10-0 in five innings, before bouncing back with a 9-8 win over the host Newell-Fonda squad.

The Kee softball team ended up on differing sides of the win-loss spectrum in playing a total of six games on just three different days, picking up its first wins of the season before ending the week on the opposite end of that result in four weekend games, three of them played against teams ranked among the top 15 in their respective classes. The Lady Hawks’ week began with that high note of its first two victories of the season, a sweep of an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) doubleheader at South Winneshiek Wednesday, May 29 by scores of 9-4 and 7-3 that kept Kee’s UIC winning streak alive and well at now 62 games. The Hawks then traveled to West Union for back-to-back days of softball action at the North Fayette Valley Tournament, where they faced those three highly-regarded foes in falling in all four games they played.

The Waukon softball team played to a nearly even second week of competition, winning three of a busy week of seven games played this past week. The Indians opened the week with a 4-1 loss at home to MFL/MarMac Tuesday, May 28 before being swept in a road Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) doubleheader at Class 4A fourth-rated Charles City Thursday, May 30 by scores of 13-3 in five innings and 13-1 in four innings. The softball Tribe got on the winning track with a 9-8 home triumph against South Winneshiek Friday, May 31 before returning to Charles City Saturday, June 1 for the annual Charles City Classic and winning two of three games there. That Classic experience began with a 7-5 win over St. Ansgar before the Indians erupted for a 17-4 triumph over West Hancock but then ended the Classic with a 5-0 loss to those same host Comets who had dealt them a pair of mercy-rule defeats just two days earlier at that same location.

The Waukon softball team got its initial week of the season under new head coach Melissa Ward off to a successful start, winning three of its first four ballgames of the season, two of those by mercy-rule victory. The softball Tribe opened the season with a 16-4 blasting of Central Elkader in just four innings on the road Tuesday, May 21 before splitting a home Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) doubleheader with Waverly-Shell Rock with a 12-9 loss followed by a 15-3 rout in three innings Thursday, May 23. The Lady Indians wrapped up that initial week with a 5-3 victory at home over Kee Friday, May 24, that game being shortened to just five innings by an approaching storm.

The Waukon baseball team got first-year head coach Shane Schellsmidt’s initial week at the helm off to a promising start at home before hitting some bumps on the road in getting its 2019 season off to a 1-4 start. After having their originally scheduled season opener at North Fayette Valley postponed from Tuesday, May 21 to this Thursday, May 30 due to rainy weather, the Indians gutted out a 7-5 win in Schellsmidt’s new coaching debut at home over Class 1A eighth-rated South Winneshiek Wednesday, May 22.

The Kee baseball team has its 2019 campaign off to a 3-1 start following a three-game winning streak to start the season followed by the Hawks’ lone loss thus far. The Purple and Silver opened the season with a sweep of a non-conference road doubleheader at Decorah Wednesday, May 22, 7-6 in eight innings and 8-4, in a date postponed from the night before due to rainy weather. The Kee boys wrapped up their initial week hosting their own Shooky Fink Tournament Saturday, May 25, beginning the day with a 9-1 win over Waukon in former Hawk Shane Schellsmidt’s return to Shooky Fink Field as an opposing coach before Kee’s diamond dwellers were tripped up by fellow Upper Iowa Conference squad, Class 1A eighth-rated South Winneshiek by an 8-0 final result.
