Kee girls basketball team comes up just shy, 38-36, at Central Elkader

The only game played by the Kee girls basketball team this past week proved to be a blow to the hopes of the Lady Hawks defending their Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) championship from last season, as the Kee girls fell a bit behind early at Central Elkader Friday, January 25 and had a valiant comeback effort in the second half come up just short for a 38-36 loss to the host Warriors. The loss drops the Hawks to a 13-3 season record that includes a now 10-2 UIC mark to currently stand in second place behind a yet UIC-undefeated MFL/MarMac team that still has five UIC games yet to play, including a date in Kee’s home gym this Friday, February 1.

The Kee girls were slated to also host MFL/MarMac Friday, February 1 before supposedly wrapping up their regular season with a Tuesday, February 5 home game with West Central, pending those other postponements. The Hawks will then begin Class 1A regional tournament play Tuesday, February 12.

Being able to give back to the program where it all started ...

Waukon High School 2014 graduates Parker Hesse and Marcus Weymiller provided a “full circle” moment when they recently made the decision to designate proceeds from the sale of t-shirts (worn and displayed at far left in the above photo) by the Waukon High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter in honor of the former Waukon football teammates’ September 15 collegiate match-up in their final seasons with the Iowa Hawkeye and UNI Panther football teams, respectively. The two were tasked by Waukon High School FBLA Advisor Joan Schwartz with the decision of where the $2,000 raised by the sale of 378 of the t-shirts would be donated, with the two deciding upon the Waukon Youth Sports Foundation (YSF) football program, the tackle football program offered for fifth and sixth grade students in the Allamakee Community School District.
