Kee girls basketball team adds three more games to current win streak of seven

The Kee girls basketball team added three victories this past week to a now seven-game winning streak, defeating two Upper Iowa Conference teams at home before doing likewise at Class 3A’s Crestwood from the Northeast Iowa Conference. Those home wins included a 69-40 triumph over Edgewood-Colesburg Tuesday, January 12 and a 67-27 stomping of Postville Friday, January 15 before the Lady Hawks traveled to Cresco and posted a 45-37 win over Crestwood Saturday, January 16.

Waukon basketball girls post undefeated week with wins over NFV and NH

The Waukon girls basketball team played to an undefeated week of competition this past week, posting wins both on the road and at home, as well as in and out of Northeast Iowa Conference action. The basketball Tribe opened the week with a 50-38 triumph at home Monday, January 11 over North Fayette Valley before also handling New Hampton in convincing fashion on the road, 58-43, Friday, January 15 to complete the season sweep of the Chickasaws.
Improving to a 7-7 season record, including a 3-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians were scheduled to make up their January 8 Charles City postponement Tuesday, January 19 before also hosting Oelwein Friday, January 22. The Tribe will then play at Crestwood Tuesday, January 26 before hosting Class 4A 12th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, January 29.

Split of six duals wrestled at Decorah results in consolation title for Waukon mat squad

The Waukon wrestling team edged closer to the end of its regular season with another late-week dual meet followed by a weekend tournament. In all, that schedule amounted to six dual meets wrestled in less than 48 hours, the Indians winning half of those duals. That competition began with a 45-27 Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet loss at Decorah Thursday, January 14 before the Tribe wrestled to a consolation championship finish at the Decorah Dual Tournament Saturday, January 16, falling to a pair of ninth-rated squads that included Class 1A Wapsie Valley, 44-30, and Class 3A Western Dubuque, 61-12, but also posting wins of 44-24 over a Decorah Red team in its initial pool and a sweep of Consolation Round duals, 48-12 over Turkey Valley and 45-15 over Postville.

The Kee boys basketball team battled through a winless week during a busy three-game schedule within five days. The Hawks suffered a 64-47 loss at home to Edgewood-Colesburg Tuesday, January 12 before doing likewise against Postville, 55-49, Friday, January 15. Kee then traveled across the river and state lines to take on a Seneca, WI team that had just one loss on the season and was ranked seventh among Wisconsin’s Division 5 schools, falling to the Indians by a 91-30 final result.
Currently holding a 2-10 season record, including a 2-6 mark in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play, the Hawks were scheduled to play at Turkey Valley Tuesday, January 19 and then host Houston, MN Thursday, January 21. Kee will then make up its postponed January 8 game at Central Elkader Monday, January 25 before playing at Starmont Tuesday, January 26 and then traveling to West Central Friday, January 29.

Waukon basketball boys’ 65-59 OT thriller over Decorah is lone win in first three games of 2016

The busiest stretch of the season faced the Waukon boys basketball team when it returned to action on the court following the holiday season, the Tribe having four games on its schedule within that week’s timeframe. However, a Friday, January 8 contest at Charles City was postponed by winter weather to January 19, and just one of those three remaining games ended up in the Indian win column, that being a 65-59 overtime thriller over Decorah at home Tuesday, January 5. On each side of that triumph, the Indians were dealt non-conference road losses, 70-67 at Clayton Ridge Saturday, January 2 and 92-49 at Prairie du Chien, WI Saturday, January 9.

Kee girls basketball team returns from holiday break with 67-20 blasting of West Central at home

The Kee girls basketball team returned from the holiday break in dominating fashion, blasting West Central by a 67-20 final result at home Tuesday, January 5 in what turned out to be the Lady Hawks’ only game of the week. A Friday, January 8 home game for the Hawks with Central Elkader was postponed due to winter weather.

The Waukon girls basketball team returned to action following the holiday season facing its busiest week of the winter campaign, scheduled for four games in a span of a week but having the last of those, a Friday, January 8 home game with Charles City postponed due to winter weather to January 19. The Tribe opened its post-holiday schedule with a 59-40 non-conference win at Clayton Ridge Saturday, January 2 before falling at Decorah, 44-41, Tuesday, January 5 but bouncing back with a 63-51 home victory over MFL/MarMac Thursday, January 7.
Improving to a 5-7 season record, including a 2-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians will slow their schedule down a bit from their busy post-holiday start. The Tribe was scheduled to host North Fayette Valley Monday, January 11 before playing at New Hampton Friday, January 15 and then making up that January 8 Charles City postponement Tuesday, January 19 before hosting Oelwein Friday, January 22.

Waukon wrestling team swept in six straight dual meets following holiday break

The Waukon wrestling team returned to the mat following the holiday break for what amounted to six dual meets within a span of less than 48 hours this past week. Forfeits loomed large for the Indian matmen, as all six of those duals avoided the win column for the Tribe, as the Indians were swept in a double dual at Charles City Thursday, January 7 by both the host school, 65-5, and Decorah, 45-26, before falling in all four of its dual meets at the New Hampton Dual Tournament Saturday, January 9. The mat Tribe fell to New Hampton, 78-0, Southeast Polk, 39-27, Dover-Eyota, MN, 55-21, and Waterloo East, 51-30, in that weekend competition.

Kee boys basketball team falls to West Central after holiday break

The three-point line gave the Kee boys basketball team a high degree of difficulty in its 65-39 loss at home to West Central Tuesday, January 5, the only game on the Hawk schedule this past week after a Friday, January 8 contest with Central Elkader was postponed due to winter weather. A 0-for-9 Kee result from behind that arc left the Hawks scoreless from there, while their Blue Devil guests pumped in 13 three-point bombs to actually equal Kee’s point total from the entire game.

Waukon wrestling team finishes third at Central Elkader Invitational

The Waukon wrestling team returned to action almost immediately following the holidays, competing in the Central Elkader Invitational Tournament Saturday, January 2. The Indians had three wrestlers battle to individual runner-up efforts and five others place third to lead the way to a third-place team finish in the eight-team tournament field.
