The Kee boys basketball team will look to reap the benefits of veteran experience as seven returning letterwinners return for Coach Pat Sullivan for the 2018-2019 season. That veteran crew includes at least four of the Hawks’ top five contributors in every statistical category from last winter’s campaign that yielded a 4-19 overall record, including a 3-10 mark in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play that placed Kee in ninth place in the final 10-team UIC standings.

Those seven returning letterwinners include five seniors in Jacob Berns, Dylan Walleser, Josh Walleser, Ryan Whalen and Shawn Wild, with juniors Lewis Peters and Cade Rasque also returning with varsity letterwinning experience. “I look to them to have a winning attitude, to pick each other up when we’re down, to keep working when we’re up, to compete every day in practice, and to set the tone for the entire program,” Coach Sullivan said of his letterwinning returnees.

The Waukon boys basketball team will return four letterwinners for its 2018-2019 season, that experience running the spectrum of including this season’s three seniors all the way down to just one sophomore. That veteran crew leads a group of 34 young men hitting the hardcourt for the Indians’ boys program this season and returns from a squad that played to the Tribe’s best season record in nearly a dozen years at 14-9 overall, including a 7-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play that placed the Indians in a tie for third place in the final NEIC standings.

Those returning letterwinners include the senior trio of Michael Headington, Pryce Hesse and Michael Sweeney, along with sophomore Creed Welch. Sweeney was the only one of that quartet who was consistently in the Tribe’s starting line-up, as graduation took away nine seniors from last winter’s squad.

Waukon Junior High Football ...

2018 Waukon seventh grade football team ...

2018 Waukon eighth grade football team ... The 2018 Waukon Indian eighth grade football team hoped to have an undefeated season, and the coaching staff says the physical and mental skills are there for this group of young men. Injuries, weather and quality opponents prevented that goal, but also helped team members focus on the future of the Waukon football program. Throughout pre-season camp and the 2018 season, skills improved while their overall knowledge of the game grew. The coaching staff says as each individual continues to work hard, they expect a positive outcome in high school for these athletes. The coaching staff of the 2018 Waukon seventh grade football team says the team may not have ended up with the record it had set as a pre-season goal, but that there’s also much more to football than the season record. Coaches say this year’s team members showed perseverance as they came together as a team. They worked hard to improve not only skills but their knowledge of the game. Plenty to cheer about ...

The Waukon cheerleading squad has had a very busy and very successful initial month of its competition season, claiming several top finishes among many other high finishes in three recent team competitions and ultimately culminating in another State Championship. Kee 2018-2019 girls basketball team working to carry on recent trend of success

The Kee girls basketball program comes off its most successful season in school history to further add to its most successful era in program history. A best-ever 22-2 season record last winter capped off an overall 82-14 record over the past four seasons for the Lady Hawk hoops program, with key pieces to both of those historical puzzles now having graduated.

Despite that graduation loss of five seniors from last winter’s squad, four of whom graced the Hawks starting line-up for multiple seasons and, thus, took a great deal of statistical and other leadership with them, the work ethic and intangible pieces of that success are seeds planted for others to harvest from in future seasons. A total of eight young ladies from last season’s roster of 14 players return this season ready to work on maintaining the recent trend of Kee girls basketball success as best they can.

Depleted Waukon football team has repeat championship hopes dashed in 48-12 loss to perennial power Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in Class 2A Semifinals

Semifinals send-off ... Members of the Waukon football team carry their Class 2A Semifinalist trophy toward their fans after having their season ended, 48-12, in the Class 2A semifinal round by Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Saturday, November 10 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. This season’s trip to the semifinals marks the second consecutive semifinals berth for the grid Tribe and its third such advancement in the past six seasons, with the Indians having ended Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s Class 2A state title defense in last season’s semifinal round and having that favor returned this season. View and find out how to purchase this photo and many more by clicking on the Photo Galleries link on this website.

A much anticipated match-up between the past two Class 2A State Champions featured a rematch of last season’s Class 2A semifinals between the Waukon football team and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (BHRV) Saturday, November 10 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

What wasn’t anticipated was the absence of the grid Tribe’s offensive leader, the eventual loss of both Waukon’s defensive leader and BHRV’s own offensive leader during the contest, four lost Indian turnovers and the eventual 48-12 loss suffered by the football Indians to have their 2018 season brought to a close. The grid Tribe’s leading offensive threat, junior Dawson Baures, played just two downs in the contest due to illness - the first of those being a 68-yard touchdown reception out of the backfield and the second being one of the Indians’ three lost fumbles in four first half turnovers that fueled BHRV to a 28-6 halftime edge.
