Robert Kubitz

Robert E. Kubitz, 93, of Waukon died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 20 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Steve Oden officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Robert Edward Kubitz was born February 8, 1921 in Caledonia, MN, the son of Edward Charles and Jane "Jenny" C. (Reburn) Kubitz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin and attended several country schools in the Eitzen, MN area.
August 29, 1945, he married Sophie Sandbeck in Decorah. They farmed together in Ludlow Township and Makee Township milking cows and doing all other aspects of farming. Sophie died in 1984. In 1983, Bob was baptized in Christian water by confession and immersion at the Cliff House pool in Decorah. January 14, 1985, he married Phyllis Martha Gast Lawson in Decorah.
Bob was a lifelong Farm Bureau member, director of Ludlow #3 School, and played in a local pool league. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, playing pool, golfing, playing cards, dancing, taking trips to Canada, spending time with his family, eating out and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. When he was younger he enjoyed playing baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Waukon; his children, Gary (Sharron) of Waukon, Doug (Sharon) of Monona, Penny (John) Hogan of Holmen, WI, Bruce (Deb) and Robin (Steve) Oden, both of Waukon, Wally (Marina) Lawson of California, and Wesley (Brenda) Lawson of Albia; 17 grandchildren, Gena Beer, LeDonna Harris, Josh Weber, Leah Dwinnell, Bob Kubitz, Shelley Mahannah, Kelly Woods, Michael Kubitz, Larry Kubitz, Joanna Downing, Nicole Hutson, Carrie Koenen, Valarie Blatchford, Julianna Haas, Jennifer Dienes, and Pat and Pete Hogan; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, LaVon Barthelme of La Crescent, MN, Betty Hogan of Postville, Marge Kramer of San Diego, CA, and Marcella Quillin of Waukon; and a brother, Allen (Bud) Kubitz of Sparks, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sophie; a stillborn son, Donald; and a sister, Donna McGovern.
