The Waukon softball team let a pair of early leads slip away to two home losses this past week, falling to Decorah Monday, June 8 by a 9-5 count and to South Winneshiek Tuesday, June 9 by a 10-4 final result. Mother Nature also took her toll on the softball Indians this week, postponing the Tribe’s Thursday, June 11 home game against New Hampton to June 29 and canceling the Saturday, June 13 Anamosa Tournament. An originally scheduled June 10 home contest with Oelwein was also canceled, but that’s due to the Huskies not being able to field a varsity team this season.
Holding a 4-7 overall record, the Indians were scheduled for a busy early part of this week, hitting the road for three consecutive nights, but a Monday, June 15 game at Crestwood was postponed to an unknown date as of this printing. Waukon was slated to play Tuesday, June 16 at North Fayette Valley, and Wednesday, June 17 at Waverly-Shell Rock. The softball Tribe will then host Charles City Monday, June 22 before playing at Decorah Wednesday, June 24. A Thursday, June 25 home doubleheader with Oelwein has also been removed from the schedule, but the Tribe will play Saturday, June 27 in the Decorah Tournament.
