JoAnn Scherf

JoAnn Alice Scherf, 70, of Harpers Ferry died Monday, September 7, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Friday, September 11 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, with Rev. Harold McMillin as the Officiant. Burial followed at the Garnavillo Cemetery, Garnavillo.
JoAnn was born December 6, 1944 to Arthur and Lucille (Bruns) Wagner in Farmersburg. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. JoAnn graduated high school from MFL in 1963.
JoAnn was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Scherf, December 21, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Five children were born to this union. They lived in St. Olaf from 1967 until 1987, then moved to Harpers Ferry and owned and operated J & L One Stop for five years and The Harbor House for 12 years.
JoAnn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Northeast Iowa Snowmobile Association and Regional Director of the Clayton County Snowbirds. She enjoyed fishing, growing flowers, feeding the birds, gardening and canning. She was a collector of angels and antiques. JoAnn spent time playing cards and Yahtzee, and loved every moment that she spent with her grandchildren.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Lloyd Scherf of Harpers Ferry; five children, Teresa (Dennis) Doeppke of Harpers Ferry, Chris (Ann) Scherf of Marion, Sheila (Mike) Noordhoek of Prairie du Chien, WI, Diane Walden of Moline, IL and Joel (Kelsey Schlueter) Scherf of Waterville; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one soon to be born great-grandchild; her siblings, Dolores Klingman of Volga, Donald (Shirley) Wagner of Farmersburg, Roger (Alice) Wagner of Dubuque and Dave Wagner of Elkader; and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lucille (Bruns) Wagner; her twin sister, Jean, in infancy; her sisters, Mary Lou Ihde and Elaine Schultz; her brother, Carl Wagner; her father- and mother-in-law, William and Viola Scherf; her brothers-in-law, Myron Ihde, Loren Scherf, Eldean Scherf, LeRoy Klingman and Verdine Glawe; and her sisters-in- law, Lafonda Scherf, Sherri Wagner and Liz Wagner.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona assisted the family with arrangements.
