Jerome "Jerry" Welsh

Jerome “Jerry” E. Welsh, 74, of Lansing passed away peacefully with his wife and loved ones by his side Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Memorial services were held Saturday, November 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. John Moser and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial with military honors was at St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
Jerome "Jerry" Edward  Welsh was born October 13, 1941 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Patrick and Mary (Zoll) Welsh. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Jerry attended a one room school house in the French Creek area and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School in Waukon in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.
October 21, 1967, he married Jeanne Collins at St. Ann's/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. They had five children, David, Katie, Marty, John and Darren. Jeanne died in 1994. Jerry worked for Brennan Construction in Lansing building bridges for 40 years. November 26, 1999, he married Maralyn Wiltgen at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church, the American Legion in Lansing and Catholic Order of Foresters. Jerry enjoyed playing cards, working puzzles, collecting car banks, and golfing with close friends. He loved his large family and was always there to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
Survivors include his wife, Maralyn Welsh of Lansing; his children: David (Laurie) Welsh, Katie (Steve) Meyer, Marty (Joy) Welsh, John Welsh and Darren (Tasha) Welsh; his step-children: Lisa (Kerry) Jacobsen, Linda Peterson, Michelle (Chip) Robbins, James (Brenda) O'Donnell and Kimberly (Eric) Stotts; 27 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Cota and Ida Mae (Bob) Gonsalves; two brothers, Lloyd (Betty) Welsh and Bernard (Caroline) Welsh; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jeanne; a grandson, Derrick Kester; three brothers, Robert, Daniel and William Welsh; three sisters: Kay (Earl) Moore, Alice (Cliff) Armstrong and Bernadine Heffern; four infant siblings; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Cota and Bob Kernan.
Honorary urnbearers were Jerry's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Urnbearers were Pat Cota, Paul McGettigan, Blake Robbins, Tanner Jacobsen, Jared Crouse and Tyler Welsh.
