Raymond Hoffman

Raymond Alfred Hoffmann, age 84, passed away at Northgate Care Center in Waukon Saturday, November 7, 2015. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.
Raymond, the son of John and Anna (Weimerskirch) Hoffmann, was born at home on the Jackson County farm of his parents June 6, 1931 in LaMotte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Theresa Catholic Church in LaMotte and attended Centerville Elementary School in rural LaMotte.
Ray began his adult life working at a packing plant in Savannah, IL. He worked there for 10 weeks and came home to work on the farm with his parents, where they raised pigs and sheep. In 1957, Ray went to work at Dubuque Pack until his retirement November 1, 1981.
Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and playing cards. His memorable trips included vacations in Las Vegas, South Dakota and Mexico. He always enjoyed farming and came to live in Waukon in the later years after his retirement to help his brother, Clarence, and nephew, Phil, with their farming operation.
Ray moved to Liberty House Apartments in Waukon in 2002. In March 2005 he was admitted to Northgate Care Center in Waukon and called the nursing home his home until his death. Ray enjoyed living at Northgate Care Center, stating, "the food is good and the staff takes good care of me."
Ray enjoyed celebrating his birthday and choosing what kind of cake he wanted each year. Ray enjoyed dyeing Easter eggs. He liked to watch the birds. His favorite clock was one with bird chirps noting the change in hours.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alfred, Walt, Clarence, Lester and Arnie Hoffmann; and seven sisters, Verdie Hermes, Irene Link, Jean Hessling, Anna Mae Hoffmann, Sue Small, Lucille Klein and Bernice Lampe. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
