Arsenic and Old Lace

To the Editor:

I must say that there was murder most hilarious committed at Waukon High School over the weekend of April 15-16. Arsenic and Old Lace mixed homicide and hoopla as our own fine young secondary students romped and mugged their way through an evening of misdirection, misappropriation and misadventure, all to the delight of an audience not quite so shocked by the cavalier demise of quite a number of unfortunates.

Katelyn Leiran and Kaia Johanningmeier were delightfully sweet and thoroughly convincing as the Kevorkian”esque” Brewester sisters. Adam Gruman was terrifically panicked as the cavalier nephew. Zach Troendle clearly enjoyed channeling our 26th president with great flair. Michaela Dehli was winsome and charming as the frustrated girlfriend. The two nefarious interlopers, Matt Hoins and Dolan Jones, were at once creepy and comic. Nathan Smith, Sean Liddiard, Kameron Klinge and Aaron Sherman had a great command of the misguided neighborhood officer.

All this took place in a great expansive set and fast-paced action. Congratulations to director Louise Wild that brought this classic humorous tale to both students and public alike. District staff and school board are to be commended for their guidance in and support of the dramatic arts for our kids.

My verdict of this nefarious tale….

Deadly funny!!
