Waukon baseball team plays through winless week against teams in top half of NEIC

The Waukon baseball team battled through a week on the road and without a win, falling in five games against teams all currently sitting in the top half of the Northeast Iowa Conference, including one currently ranked in the top five of Class 2A. The Indians also lost a non-conference game to Mother Nature, as they were rained out of a Tuesday, June 14 road date at Osage that has not been rescheduled at this point.

The Tribe’s troublesome road trip got its start Monday, June 13 with a doubleheader at Oelwein that got into just four innings of game one before being rained out to a Thursday, June 16 make-up date, where the Indians fell by scores of 11-1 and 10-0 in five innings. The road did not get any friendlier, as the Tribe was dealt a 10-0 loss in six innings by Class 2A third-rated New Hampton Wednesday, June 15 and then suffered losses of 10-5 and 11-6 at Crestwood Friday, June 17.

Now holding a 3-11 season record, 1-8 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were next slated to host Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 20 for a doubleheader - half of which is a make-up game from a May 31 rain-out, before also making up a May 27 rain-out at home with Clayton Ridge Tuesday, June 21 and then playing at Charles City Friday, June 24 and hosting its annual Jeff Houg Tournament Saturday, June 25, details of which appear in a shaded box on this same page. The Indians will then play a doubleheader at Decorah Tuesday, June 28 before hosting Postville Thursday, June 30 and Oelwein Friday, July 1.
