Waukon softball team battles pair of ranked NEIC foes in playing through winless week

The Waukon softball team battled through a winless week, one of those losses coming to Mother Nature with the cancellation, due to stormy weather, of a Tuesday, June 14 non-conference game at North Fayette that has not been rescheduled as of yet. Three of the four losses suffered by the Indians on the field were dealt by Northeast Iowa Conference teams rated within the top 15 of their respective class, including defeats of 10-4 and 9-4 at Class 3A 12th-rated Crestwood Monday, June 13 and a 5-1 loss at Class 4A fourth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday, June 15. The softball Tribe wrapped up its winless week with a 7-1 loss at Osage Thursday, June 16 in non-conference play.

Falling to 1-8 in Northeast Iowa Conference play and a 5-13 overall record, the Indians were next slated to play at Charles City Monday, June 20 before hosting Decorah for a doubleheader Wednesday, June 22 and then playing in the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 25. The softball Tribe will then wrap up its regular season with two final home dates, a Tuesday, June 28 doubleheader against New Hampton and Thursday, June 30 against Crestwood before beginning postseason tournament play July 5 at a site and against an opponent yet to be released.
