Local 4-H'ers will be representing Allamakee County at Iowa State Fair following Expressions Day

A total of 29 Allamakee County 4-H youth recently showcased their talents by competing in various communications and clothing events during the Expressions Day Program and Style Show held at the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Waukon Campus and the Waukon High School Auditorium Sunday, June 26. Several received top awards and will have the opportunity to represent Allamakee County at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines August 11-21.

The 4-H’ers winning top honors in Educational Presentations and advancing on to represent Allamakee County at the Iowa State Fair include Michael Mattson, Abby Wiemerslage, Christa Heffern and Taylor Howard. These 4-H’ers are judged on stage presence, vocal projection, organization, visual aids, educational value of topic, and how well they kept their audience interested as they present their information.

Representing Allamakee County in the category of Working Exhibits will be Emily Hammel and Erika Johnson. Working Exhibit participants are judged on their ability to describe, demonstrate or teach a product or skill directly to a small audience.

Erika Johnson was also selected to participate at the Iowa State Fair with her Clothing Selection outfit. In the category of Clothing Selection, participants purchase a garment during the current 4-H year at a clothing store.

Selected to represent Allamakee County in the $15 Challenge category is Bethany Stock. The $15 Challenge category provides participants the opportunity to purchase an outfit for $15 or less at a second-hand or consignment store.

Katelyn Leiran was selected to participate in the State Fair Clothing event with her Fashion Revue outfit. The category of Fashion Revue challenges participants to sew their own garments.
Abby Wiemerslage, Berlin Troendle and Meridian Snitker will represent Allamakee County in the category Share-The-Fun. In Share-the-Fun, members perform before an audience purely for the sake of enjoyment.
