Waukon wrestling team swept in final NEIC duals, wins Riceville team title

The Waukon wrestling team prepared for its final tournament run of the season by wrapping up its dual meet season and then bringing its regular season tournament schedule to a season-best finish this past week. The Indians matched up in their final dual meets of the season in a double-dual at Charles City Thursday, January 19, falling to both the host Comets, 46-34, and then Class 3A fifth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock, 78-5. The mat Tribe bounced back from that double-dual sweep with its first tournament championship of the season, winning the six-team Cat Invitational hosted by Riceville High School Saturday, January 21.

The Indians wrapped up their dual meet season with a 9-16 overall record, including a 1-5 mark in the Northeast Iowa Conference that placed them in a tie for sixth place with Charles City. The wrestling Tribe will now prepare to host the Northeast Iowa Conference Wrestling Tournament Saturday, January 28, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Waukon High School gym.
