A pair of local seniors will be representing their schools one final time this season playing with their top-end peers in the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Senior All-Star Games this Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7 at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Waukon High School senior Maddie Ahlstrom and Kee High School senior Makayla Walleser will each suit up for that All-Star series for their respective squads.

Ahlstrom is one of 10 seniors selected to play for the Class 3A White squad, a team coached by Nate Wall and Marc Renning from Carroll High School and featuring Josie Condon of Estherville Lincoln Central, a team coached by Waukon native Don Martindale this season. That White squad will take on the Class 3A Grey squad to kick off this year’s All-Star weekend at 12 noon this Saturday, April 6. The Class 3A Grey squad will include fellow Northeast Iowa Conference seniors Drew Becker of Oelwein and Maddi Moorman of New Hampton.

The Class 3A/4A/5A Select game will follow that initial Class 3A contest at 2 p.m., with the Class 4A/5A White vs. Grey game wrapping up the Saturday portion of the All-Star weekend. The Class 4A/5A Grey Team will also feature some Northeast Iowa Conference flavor, as Charles City senior Jodie Sindlinger has been selected to play for that squad, which will be coached by Comet head coach Danielle Rippentrop.

The All-Star weekend will wrap up with three more games played Sunday, April 7, one of which will feature Walleser in her final high school basketball game. Walleser was chosen among the Class 1A elite to take the floor for the Class 1A Select Team, which will be coached by Bruce Bailey of Gladbrook-Reinbeck and feature fellow senior Olivia Larsen from this year’s Class 1A State Champion Newell-Fonda, a team that eliminated Walleser and her fellow Kee Hawks in the opening round of last season’s Class 1A State Tournament.

That Class 1A Select Team will take on its Class 2A Select Team counterpart in the middle contest of Sunday’s three-game schedule, beginning at 2 p.m. The Class 1A White and Grey teams will begin Sunday’s slate at 12 p.m., with the Class 2A White vs. Grey game for 3:30 p.m.
