Sullivan is double qualifier in throwing events, Behrend qualifies in high jump, Hatlan in 100m
The Waukon boys track team competed for the right to extend the 2019 season for as many events and competitors as possible, doing so for three such Indians in four individual events at the Tribe’s Class 2A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Monticello Friday, May 10. The event was delayed a day due to cold weather conditions the previous night, with the Indians ending up with one event championship and two event runner-up finishes to earn automatic qualification for this week’s State Track Meet, and also getting one other at-large qualification with a fourth-place finish to help lead the way to 55 team points and a seventh-place team finish in the final 12-team meet standings.
ON TO STATE
The track Tribe’s three qualifiers in four events for this year’s State Meet will now prepare to compete among Class 2A’s elite in their respective events at Drake Stadium in Des Moines this Thursday-Saturday, May 16-18. Details of their State Meet schedule appear elsewhere on the same Sports pages in the May 15, 2019 edition of The Standard.
