Kee baseball team sweeps Postville in Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader, falls by just a 4-3 margin in late innings at Class 2A fifth-rated New Hampton

The Kee baseball team traveled near the end of each spectrum of success this past week and also ended up on each end of the win-loss spectrum in doing so. The Hawks first swept an Upper Iowa Conference pair at winless Postville Monday, June 24 by equal scores of 12-1 in five and seven innings before battling Class 2A fifth-rated New Hampton to just a 4-3 defeat Wednesday, June 26.

The Hawks were also supposed to play a non-conference doubleheader at home against Crestwood Thursday, June 27. That home twinbill was called off due to rainy weather and is not scheduled to be made up.

Now holding a 19-7 season record that includes an 8-2 mark in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play, the Hawks were next scheduled to host Turkey Valley Monday, July 1 for one final UIC doubleheader and regular season home appearance before playing Dunkerton and Wapsie Valley at Upper Iowa University’s baseball field in Fayette Friday, July 5. The Kee diamond dwellers will then wrap up their regular season schedule with consecutive road dates, Monday, July 8 at Turkey Valley against the host Trojans and West Fork before  Tuesday, July 9 date at Riceville. The Hawks will then open postseason tournament play at home against Turkey Valley Friday, July 13, with further details about Kee’s postseason tournament trail being published in a shaded box elsewhere on the same Sports pages in the July 3 print and e-edition of The Standard.
