June Capper

June Rose Capper, 88, of Lansing, formerly of Elgin, died Friday, August 16, 2019 at Thornton Manor, Lansing. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, August 24 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin. Burial followed at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin.

June was born June 1, 1931 to John and Julia (Braker) Grimm in Elgin. She graduated from Elgin High School, Elgin in 1948. June moved to Chicago, IL after graduation and was a waitress at Stouffers.

June was united in marriage with Lloyd Capper October 21, 1950 in Chicago, IL. Four children were born to this union: Vikki, Jack, Sue and Betsy. During these years June was a very busy homemaker spending her time gardening, canning, sewing clothing for her kids and later, grandkids.

She loved her family and spent time camping and fishing, waterskiing and ice fishing, and when grandchildren came, babysitting.

She was an excellent cook hosting many Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.  She baked and made candy that everyone enjoyed. In her spare time she loved to read and do crossword puzzles.  She even took a shop class and built furniture for the home. In 1969 she went to work for Northern Engraving, eventually becoming the first female foreman at Northern Engraving.

June is survived by her children: Vikki (Ken) Brauer of Hudson, Jack Capper of Douds, Sue (Frank) Wise of DeLand, FL and Betsy (Tim) Stahl of Lansing; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters,  Marie (John) Bickford of California, Bessie Mason of Grand Rapids, MI, Dorothy Anderson of Elgin, Alice Dhamers of Moline, IL and Verna Farrance of Rock Island, IL; her brother-in-law, Stanley (Gail) Capper of Wichita, KS; her sister-in-law, Pat (Tracy) Anderson of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents, John and Julia Grimm; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence (Effie), Harold (Margaret) and Lester; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl (Hilary) Woytash, Margaret (William) Price and Mabel (Albert) Bessler; her in-laws, Norris and Florence Capper; and her brother-in-law, James Leland Capper.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin assisted the family with the arrangements.
