Senior pair named to IFCA Academic All-State Honor Roll ...

Waukon football seniors Alyx Ede (photo above) and Tyler Block (photo below) have each been named among the more than 90 Iowa high school football seniors selected for the Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Academic All-State Honor Roll following completion of the 2019 football season. Players named to the list must be nominated by their head coach, must be a senior starter on the football team, must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or better at the end of their junior year, and must be involved in other extra-curricular activities.

As the starting center on this year’s team, Ede helped pave the way for the Indians to gain 2,963 yards on the ground and amass 2,410 passing yards for a combined 73 touchdowns this season, and he also recorded one solo tackle and two assisted stops this season. From his linebacker position, Block wrapped up 20 solo tackles and 17 assisted stops, including one solo tackle for loss of yards, and he also caught one pass for seven yards this season. The senior pair helped the Indians to a 12-1 season record and a Class 2A State Runner-Up fi nish during their 2019 campaign, a season that included a second consecutive undefeated Class 2A District 4 championship for the Indians.
