Waukon football team clinches third consecutive undefeated District Championship with 48-22 win at North Fayette Valley

The theme for the Waukon football team’s final game of the 2020 regular season was one of “repeat” Friday, October 9 at North Fayette Valley in West Union.

The Indians were looking to repeat their recent trend of dominating wins over Class 2A District 4 opponents in a quest of repeating as the undefeated District 4 champions for a third straight year. Both of those accomplishments were completed with relative ease, as the grid Tribe proceeded to repeat a trend of scoring on its first seven offensive possessions while turning away the host TigerHawks’ first eight possessions of the ballgame on the way to a 48-0 lead before North Fayette Valley finally found the scoreboard for all three of its tallies against the Indian reserves late in the ballgame.

Against a TigerHawk squad that had a dozen of its players able to return to action that day for the first time in two weeks due to COVID-19 quarantine, the Indians amassed 421 yards of total offense, with 243 of those yards coming on the ground fueled by a 160-yard, two-touchdown night by senior Ethan O’Neill, who also threw for two other touchdowns to aid the Tribe’s 178 yards and four touchdowns through the air. The Indian defense allowed 256 total yards to the host TigerHawks that included 180 yards rushing, with a majority of all those yards coming in the second half against the Tribe reserves.
