Georgia Jane Hawes was born December 3, 1939 in Winona, MN to George and Vivian (Erding) Carroll. Jane graduated from Cotter High School in Winona in 1957 and earned a degree in nursing from the College of Saint Teresa in 1961.

Jane was united in marriage to John Anthony Hawes August 19, 1961 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. The couple lived on a farm in rural Harpers Ferry and raised five children together. Jane worked as a registered nurse at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon until 1976, and was the Director of Nursing at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing from 1976 to 1997.

Following the tragic loss of her husband, John, in 1989, Jane was united in marriage to Gerald Leo Hawes December 26, 1992 at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing. Gerald and Jane made their home in the Wexford area and continued to farm until Gerald passed away in 2014.
Jane found joy in service to others and devoted her life to her family, her community, and her work as a nurse. She loved music and served as the organist at the Wexford church for 51 years. Jane was known for preparing wonderful meals for family and friends, topped off with delicious desserts like apple pie or chocolate cake. She enjoyed competition, whether it was playing spirited card games or watching the Packers and Hawkeyes. Her laughter and positive energy brightened the hearts of the people around her. She will be deeply missed by the people whose lives she touched.
