Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc. hosts its annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk event

The 2023 Firecracker 5K held Saturday, July 1 was the lead-off event for the Fourth of July holiday weekend in Harpers Ferry. The event is hosted by Harpers Ferry Boosters, Inc. and is the organization’s main annual fundraiser which helps the group offer financial support to many organizations and worthy causes benefiting Harpers Ferry and Allamakee County throughout the year.

The top overall female finisher was Addy Carlson, and the top male finisher was Michael Goodenbour, both of Cedar Falls. The top finishers in each age division each won a medal and are listed in the chart accompanying this article. Special thanks to Kaylee Bachman for singing the National Anthem prior to the start of the race.

A beautiful, rather cool morning made conditions perfect for running or walking. The race, which is managed by Fast Track Racing, is known for its course being flat and fast. The route for the annual event offers lovely views and a tranquil setting overlooking the Mississippi River on the east and the rising bluffs framing the west side of the Harpers Ferry community. One of the runners, who was traveling through the area and decided to stop and participate in the run/walk, commented that he had never been to this area before and was amazed by the picturesque and natural beauty.
