Waukon football team lets Class 2A District 3 opener get away in the second half in 34-7 loss at North Fayette Valley

The beginning of Class 2A District 3 play for the Waukon football team found the grid Tribe in a place where it has not been in the past five years, the short end of the scoreboard in a district football game. Traveling to West Union to open up their district schedule for the 2023 campaign against North Fayette Valley Friday, September 15, the football Indians saw an otherwise close battle, 14-7, at the halftime break get away to a 34-7 defeat for the Tribe’s first loss in a district football game since its second district contest of the 2017 season.

The grid Tribe will next prepare for its annual Homecoming game this Friday, September 22, a game in which they will host a Crestwood team that accounted for half of the Indians’ four losses last fall, including a season-ending dogfight in the second round of the State Play-Offs. The Cadets have played the same three teams the Indians had in non-district play, falling to each of them by 26 points or more. They come off their first win of the season this past Friday, September 15, a 54-14 Homecoming victory of their own over Oelwein.
