The Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership (ISWEP) presented the City of Waukon with the Urban Stormwater and Watershed Jurisdiction of the Year Award during the 2023 Iowa Water Conference held in Altoona Tuesday-Wednesday, September 19-20. Waukon Mayor Arvid Hatlan is pictured above receiving the award on behalf of the City of Waukon from Iowa Storm Water Education Partnership Executive Director Patricia A. Sauer.

The award recognizes the City’s completion of the Stormwater Quality Project that will protect and improve the water quality of Indian Springs Pond within the Waukon City Park and Paint Creek that flows south of the City Park. Green stormwater infrastructure that was installed included a bioretention cell and stormwater wetland created just north of the Waukon City Park campground area, and two permeable paver parking areas and a vegetated swale with check dams within the Waukon City Park. The award recognizes the City for its leadership and commitment to improving local pond and stream water quality. Submitted photo.
