Iowa Senator Mike Klimesh recently announced his intention to seek a second term in the Iowa Senate from District 32. Senate District 32 includes all of Allamakee, Clayton, Howard, and Winneshiek counties. It also includes portions of Fayette and Dubuque counties.

“From historic tax relief to broad protections for law enforcement and protecting Second Amendment rights for Iowans, it has been an incredibly productive first term,” said Klimesh. “I appreciate this opportunity to represent northeast Iowa and I know more work remains to be done to continue to improve the quality of life in our area.”

“I look forward to working on more solutions for rural communities and addressing the challenges northeast Iowa is facing. From emergency services to economic development and tax relief, I will be an advocate for the taxpayer, while continuing to find solutions for our communities.”

Senator Klimesh is the chair of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Commerce, Government Oversight, Local Government, and Ways and Means committees. He was also elected by his fellow Senate Republicans as an Assistant Majority Leader.

Senator Klimesh graduated in 1987 from South Winneshiek High School. He graduated from Luther College in 1991 with a degree in political science.

Senator Klimesh met his wife, Kate, when they were students at Luther College. Since graduating from Luther, Senator Klimesh has managed Graphics Inc. for more than 20 years and served a total of 22 years as the mayor of Spillville.

Community is important to Senator Klimesh, who has served on the emergency management commission, the Winneshiek County Economic Development Board, and Winneshiek County Tourism. He has also served on the Winneshiek County Community Foundation Board, the Winneshiek County Mayors Coalition, and several other boards and commissions.
