2012 Summer Reading Program to get underway at Robey Memorial Library

This year’s theme for the Summer Reading Program (SRP) at Robey Memorial Library in Waukon is "Dream Big…Read". The Summer Reading Program will kick off with Family Night at the library Monday, July 9 from 5:45-7:30 p.m.
Scheduled events for Family Night include: Reading Challenge Registration, Snakes Alive! Program, and Storytelling by Sue Kiesau and puppet friends. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The four-week Reading Challenge runs from Monday, July 9 through Saturday, August 4. Children ages infant through completion of sixth grade are encouraged to participate. Prizes will be given for each week of participation. Teens, grades seventh through completion of 12th, will receive a weekly prize with a special prize for the top reader. New this year is Experience Prizes for the top readers.
Organizations, businesses and City departments around Waukon have agreed to give private tours to the program's top readers along with five or six family members and/or friends. Experience Prize destinations are the Waukon Fire Station, Waukon Police Station, Allamakee County Museum, Parrots at Dawn Pet Store, WW Homestead Dairy, and  Bruening Rock Products.
See the library's website or visit Robey Memorial Library for participation rules. As in past years, Reading Challenge participants will be displaying a Library Champion sign in their yard. Residents are encouraged to watch for these signs as they drive around the area.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
In addition to the Reading Challenge, an abundance of other activities are available through the library this summer. Kids/Teens Creative Crafts will be held  Wednesday afternoons,  July 11, 18 and 25, and August 1, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for kids and 3-5 p.m. for teenagers. Participants may come in anytime during those scheduled two-hour periods to participate in a craft.
The Allamakee County Library Association will be hosting the Dean of Juggling program (2 p.m.) during Kid’s Day at the Allamakee County Fair Friday, July 20 from 12-4 p.m. Fair-goers are encouraged to the Association's fair booth for information and activities.
Tuesday Story Time continues each Tuesday morning from 10:30-11 a.m. Scheduled readers through the summer are Sue Kiesau, Kirk Snitker, Nikki Frana and Amy Burroughs.
