Aaron Forest to receive Eagle Scout Award

Aaron Forest, age 16, of Waverly has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. He will be recognized in ceremonies Sunday, April 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. A member of Wabuha District, Winnebago Council, Troop 90, Forest is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.  Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle. Forest earned 32 merit badges and led the design, building and installation of seven signs along the Waverly Rail Trail for his Eagle Project. Along with additional volunteers, he logged 198 service hours on this project.
Forest has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Historian and Librarian for Troop 90. He spent 36 nights camping and earned two Red Flannel awards. In 2007 he was elected to the Order of the Arrow. He also attended the 2010 National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, VA. Forest is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly and is active in Math Club, Mock Trial, Engineering Club, National Honor Society and tennis at Waverly-Shell Rock High School, where he is a junior. He is the son of Kevan and Cheryl Forest of Waverly, and the grandson of Harold and Shirley Colsch of Waukon and Ron and Jan Forest of Mt. Vernon. Submitted photo.
