Allamakee 4-H County Council conducting "Suds Drive" at the Fair

The 2011 Allamakee County Fair is scheduled for July 20-24. As the Allamakee County Fair gets underway, many 4-H'ers are thinking about livestock shows, grandstand events, showcasing their 4-H projects, and other fair activities. In addition to all the usual fanfare, there is another display 4-H’ers are preparing.
Allamakee 4-H County Council is once again sponsoring a community service project to help less fortunate families in the community. In keeping with the spirit of 4-H and acting on the idealism of helping others, the 4-H County Council is asking fairgoers to help with this year’s community service challenge by donating to their "Suds Drive".
According to Linda Kruse, Director of Allamakee County Relief Services, laundry soap is a needed item for many families in the community.
Those visiting the Allamakee County Fair this year are asked to drop off newly-purchased liquid or powder laundry soap at a collection spot just inside the 4-H Exhibit Building. The 4-H County Council will make a public display of items collected by clubs and fairgoers.  There will also be a box in the 4-H Building for monetary donations to be placed. Laundry soap may also be dropped off at the Allamakee County Extension Office, 21 Allamakee Street in Waukon, until July 18.
