Allamakee County Community Foundation awards $78,000 in grants to 16 non-profit groups

The future Driftless Area Education and Visitor Center in Lansing, the Main Feature Theater Projector Project in Waukon and the Kee High School Softball/Baseball Field Renovation Project in New Albin each will be benefitting from large grants given by the Allamakee County Community Foundation (ACCF) during this year’s cycle of grant funding. All of these programs will receive over $10,000 in funding, the most ever awarded by the ACCF.
The ACCF will be hosting a grant awarding ceremony this Thursday, April 18 at 9 a.m. at the Waukon Wellness Center. The event is free and open to the public.
“The ACCF had so many worthy applications, with grant requests totaling $219,373, that this was a difficult year for the board in grant decision making. We appreciated the quality of the grants which came to the ACCF,” said Joan McCormick, board chairperson of the Allamakee County Community Foundation.
The full list of organizations receiving grant funding this year is as follows:
• $17,000 to the Allamakee County Conservation Board for the Driftless Area Education & Visitor Center
• $15,000 to Ironridge Church for the Main Feature Theater Projector Project
• $12,000 to the Shooky Fink Memorial Baseball/Recreation Program for the Kee High School Softball/Baseball Field Renovation Project
• $9,000 to the Waterville Public Library for the Waterville Library Project
• $6,000 to Waukon Works for Waukon Visioning
• $3,500 to Allamakee New Beginnings for Feedings Postville Strengthening
• $3,000 to Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission for its Housing Trust Fund
• $2,500 to Waukon Economic Development Corporation for an Allamakee LED sign
• $2,000 to Allamakee County Economic Development  & Tourism Commission for the Allamakee Driftless Safari
• $2,000 to Main Street Matters for a website
• $2,000 to the Postville VFW Post 12083 for a Four County Memorial
• $1,500 to Allamakee Community School District, East and West Elementary for Kids Getting Fit
• $1,000 to the Harpers Ferry Volunteer Fire Department for extrication equipment
• $1,000 to Waukon Economic Development Corporation for Allamakee Thunder in the Park
• $600 to Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation & Development for promoting the Driftless Area Scenic Byway
• $500 to the Waukon Park & Recreation Commission for a city park trail bench
• $400 to the Postville American Legion Post 518 for a gun safe

The ACCF receives funds each year from the Iowa Department of Economic Development County Endowment Program. Seventy-five percent of the money received is granted out each year. The other 25 percent is maintained in a permanent endowment with income to be distributed in future years. For more information, visit www.allamakeefoundation.org.
