City of Waukon has CDBG funding for housing rehabilitation projects

Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) has announced that Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) intends to award the City of Waukon a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $324,000. These funds will be used for the rehabilitation of eight owner-occupied single family homes.
Funding for the CDBG program was very competitive this year, with only 17 of 53 CDBG applications funded. The City of Waukon, along with Waukon State Bank, Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank and Fidelity Bank, all contributed match dollars to make this award possible.
The City of Waukon will accept applications for the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Program July 16 through August 15 this year.
The rehabilitation program can assist homeowners with up to $24,999 to help make repairs to their home to help maintain the home structurally, such as replacing shingles or siding that are in poor condition; and/or to aid in energy efficiency such as adding insulation to the attic and walls, replacing drafty old windows, and updating the electrical and plumbing. The homes must meet Iowa’s Minimum Housing Standard’s upon completion.
To determine eligibility for the grant funds: participants must own and live in their home for a minimum of six months, must be income eligible and property cannot be located in the 100-year flood plain. Income eligibility is based on household size and annual (gross) household income, as indicated below:
