Dale and Karen Green inducted into Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at State Fair

Dale and Karen Green of Castalia were inducted into the 2012 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines Sunday, August 19.
Ninety Iowa counties participated in the Hall of Fame selection process this year, selecting inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H. Inductees or their surviving family members were presented a plaque by the Iowa 4-H Foundation as they were introduced on stage.
The Greens have a long family tradition of 4-H involvement. Dale’s 4-H involvement has spanned more than 50 years, from his years as a 4-H’er, livestock judging organizer, beef judge, Big 4 Fair Board member, and beef and sheep superintendent. Karen was dedicated to her trophy and award business for 20 years, Green Specialties. She made trophies for many local fairs. The Greens have been longtime supporters of the Allamakee County 4-H Program.  Their 4-H tradition has continued with their five children and grandchildren.
Counties select inductees for their exceptional work in contributing to the lives of 4-H members and the overall 4-H program. Many inductees served as club leaders, youth mentors, fair superintendents, fair board members, Extension council members, county youth council members, fair judges, financial supporters, chaperones, or Iowa State University  Extension and Outreach staff members. The inductees have demonstrated dedication, encouragement, commitment, and guidance to Iowa’s 4-H’ers through the years.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the counties and state to recognize and celebrate 4-H volunteers and staff who have shown outstanding service and dedication to Iowa’s 4-H program,” said Chuck Morris, ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development director.
The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame was initiated in 2002 to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of 4-H. For more information about the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame, contact Sue Pederson, County Youth Coordinator, at the Allamakee County Extension Office at 563-568-6345.
