Family Fun Day being held to raise funds for playground equipment

In an ongoing effort to raise funds to replace playground equipment adjacent to the Thompson Shelter near the center of Waukon City Park, the Veterans Memorial Hospital Nursing Council and the Healing Hearts Infant Loss Support Group will be hosting a Family Fun Day fundraiser Friday, April 27. The event is being held from 5-7 p.m. at the very shelter near where the equipment of 40-plus years in age is being considered for replacement.
Some initial confusion about which playground equipment was being replaced started a recent Facebook outcry to "Save the Rocket", but event organizers and Waukon Park and Recreation leaders want to assure people that the famed rocket slide in the city park is not scheduled for replacement in the near future, and is certainly not part of this undertaking. Some of the equipment being targeted for replacement includes the horse swings and the smaller slide with the arched cover at the top of the steps, both of which are currently located near the Thompson Shelter where the April 27 event is being held.
The Family Fun Day will consist of a meal available for purchase, as well as children's games to play. Tickets are available for purchase at the front desk of Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon prior to the event. For further information, see the advertisement on Page 9A in this week's issue of The Standard.
With the idea in mind that everyone loves to have variety in safe, fun playground equipment for children to enjoy when visiting the park, the two groups spearheading the project have set a goal to replace the current equipment with a playground structure for children ages two to 12 years old. Project organizers feel that the addition of a playground area for smaller children to play at would be a nice complement to the park's other unique features that seem to be more geared toward older children through adults.

DONORS TO BE HONORED
As another part of the fundraising process for the project, donor recognition featuring names and/or messages on an engraved wall will be placed near the playground site. The contribution recognition form accompanying this article in this week's print edition allows interested donors to fill out their listing per their contribution amount, if desired. An example of the "John & Jane Doe Family" appears within the accompanying form.
The groups organizing the project are also developing a special way in which donors can have their angel babies memorialized through the project. Information for donor recognition will be available at the Family Fun Night and other upcoming fundraising events.
All contributions are tax deductible. Contributions of $100 and over will receive a receipt letter for tax purposes, otherwise those receipts will be issued by request only. Checks should be made payable to Nursing Council and returned with the completed contribution recognition form to:
