First Annual Trekking for Trails Bike Ride is Aug. 3

The first annual Trekking for Trails Bike Ride will kick off Saturday, August 3 at the Waukon City Park. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are ongoing for the ride that will work in conjunction with Waukon Corn Days for an expanded, annual, community event.
The bike ride will start at 9 a.m. and includes a 25-mile ride through scenic Allamakee County. Registration will take place from 8-9 a.m. and the cost includes participation in the bike ride and a t-shirt.
After the bike ride is completed, there will be food, ice-cream and fun in the Waukon City Park. Everyone is also invited to swim at the Waukon City Pool for just $1. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase to win a bicycle from Decorah Bicycles. The raffle will be drawn after the bike ride.
All proceeds will go to support the rebuilding of the Waukon City Park’s trails that were severely damaged due to the 2013 flooding. The Waukon Trails Committee is currently working together to get a trail system going in Waukon, and the group feels it is important to help rebuild and maintain what is currently available for trails.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Visitor Center, located at 101 West Main Street in Waukon, and can be found online at www.cityofwaukon.com. Call 563-568-2624 for more information or to volunteer at the event.
