Honored as "Everyday Heroes of the Tri-States"

The American Red Cross of the Tri-States held its 10th annual Everyday Heroes of the Tri-States breakfast Tuesday, March 19 at the Best Western Plus in Dubuque to honor residents from the tri-state area for acts of heroism or just for their everyday commitment to others as well as to their community. A group of five northeast Iowa individuals were among the 16 people who received honors at the event, including Darryl Brink, Keith and Janet Schroeder and Justin Hager, all of Waukon, and Walker Hovey of Decorah. Those five were honored with Adult Good Samaritan Awards for their efforts in pulling members of the Pat Egan family away from the fiery wreckage of a two-vehicle head-on collision in August of 2012 near Rossville, as well as for the support they provided the family until emergency response personnel arrived on the accident scene. The five were nominated by Valerie Egan, wife of Dustin Egan, one of the family members involved in the accident.
