IPTV "Reading Road Trip" breaks records

Kids and families across Iowa spent time riding in a spaceship, throwing snowballs at a Yeti monster, and pledging to watch less television during Iowa Public Television’s fifth-annual summer "Reading Road Trip". At 65 Iowa libraries, a record 15,465 people attended these high-energy events hosted by IPTV KIDS Clubhouse host Dan Wardell - 2,290 more than last year and 1,323 more than the previous record, set in 2008.
Robey Memorial Library in Waukon was a part of that record-setting effort, with more than 125 people attending the program held locally June 28. Library director Rick Meyer says the "Reading Road Trip" event was the library's best attended event ever. “Dan and IPTV provide an invaluable service to library patrons and we were thrilled to be part of their awesome statistics and hope to host the Reading Road Trip again,” commented Ellen Krousie, Children’s Programming Coordinator at Robey Memorial Library.
For the fifth year in a row, Iowa Public Television has partnered with libraries to promote summer reading with an interactive, original story time that encourages kids to spend time reading and playing outside while limiting television viewing time.
In addition to the scheduled story times at libraries across Iowa, Wardell kept an online journal of his fun on the Reading Road Trip with pictures, an interactive map, video, and more. Wardell can be followed online at www.iptv.org/dantastic.
