Meet and Greet event with President Lincoln will kick off Civil War Reenactment planned for 2013

The Civil War Reenactment Executive Committee, recently organized in anticipation of its namesake project next summer, will be holding a Meet and Greet event Friday, June 1 from 2-4 p.m. at the Allamakee County Courthouse Museum in Waukon. Light refreshments will be served during the program.
The honorary guest for the event will be President Abraham Lincoln portrayed by Lance V. Mack. Using Lincoln’s own timeless words and wearing period attire, including President Lincoln’s signature stovepipe hat and black frock coat, Mack has been portraying this country's 16th President for more than 20 years.
As Lincoln, Mack will be sharing some of the former President's life experiences, but his main reason for visiting Waukon is to help the Civil War Reenactment Executive Committee accept its first donation from the Allamakee County Historical Society for the upcoming 2013 event. June 8-9 next year, an historic reenactment event titled “Allamakee County’s Thunder in the Park” will take place at the Waukon City Park.
The event will bring historic and professional performers to Waukon to provide a glimpse into the Civil War era with performances from Mack as Abraham Lincoln, Bob Welch with his “Songs and Stories of the Civil War”, Faire Wynds Traveling Medicine Show and the Lewis and Clark Fife and Drum Corps, as well as cannon firings and two battles representing the civil war battles in which Allamakee County soldiers participated in. Educational entertainment will fill this two-day event that is being set up to develop into an ongoing yearly initiative.
The Friday, June 1 Meet and Greet will help promote the event coming in the summer of 2013. Those who would like to volunteer or make a donation for the 2013 event are asked to contact the Allamakee county Economic Development office at 563-568-2624. The 2013 reenactment event is being presented by the Allamakee County Historical Society, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce, Allamakee County Economic Development, Waukon Economic Development and the 3rd Iowa Light Artillery.
