PAW's first annual "Spring into Action" fundraiser to assist animals with emergency care

People for Animal Welfare (PAW) will be hosting its first annual "Spring into Action" fundraiser this Saturday, May 1 in an effort to raise funds to be used to help animals in emergency situations. The event will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Danan Lansing Memorial Building at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds in Decorah.
The fundraiser will include a silent auction, displays by area artisans, pottery, jewelry, home-based business, face painting and a bake sale. Proceeds from the event each year will be used by PAW to pay for any emergency or extensive medical care that may be needed by animals in PAW's care.
One such animal is Bleau, who will be in attendance at the event and is a recent recipient of such medical treatment through the PAW organization. According to information released by PAW, "Bleau was in pain and unable to use one of his back legs. He was kind and appreciative - a dog that deserved to be saved. A dog like this would most likely be euthanized in a shelter setting."
After being examined by a veterinarian, it was determined that Bleau had suffered several injuries that were never properly treated, and the leg required amputation. With no immediate funding available at PAW for such care, the "Spring into Action" fundraiser was created in an effort to provide a source of funding for such needs.
