Single vehicle accident claims Lansing man

A one-vehicle accident early Wednesday evening, January 16 south of Harpers Ferry claimed the life of Carlton Joseph Johnson, age 60, of Lansing. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer Johnson was driving northbound on Allamakee County Road X52 slid off the roadway described in the report as "completely ice-covered," just north of its intersection with State Highway 76, at approximately 6:25 p.m.
The report states that the vehicle entered the east ditch and hit a rock, causing the vehicle to roll and eventually rest on its wheels facing south. Johnson was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. A full obituary for Carlton Johnson appears in this week's issue of The Standard.
Assisting the Iowa State Patrol with the accident were the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office and Harpers Ferry Ambulance, Fire and Rescue Services.
