Spieker achieves Eagle Scout rank

Donald M. Spieker, age 18, son of Mary Catherine Tillman of Waukon and formerly of Cresco, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank of Boy Scouts of America. He now serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 66 in Decorah.
Spieker began his scouting career as a Cub Scout, joining Troop 66 May 16, 2005, and completed his boards of review and advanced through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Scout November 17, 2005. He earned the Star Scout rank April 23, 2007, the Life Scout rank September 2, 2008, and completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review May 24 this year.

Spieker’s Eagle Scout project was the planning and supervision of the renovation of the welcome sign area at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Highway 9 in Decorah.
Spieker has served in a variety of leadership posts with Troop 66, including Den Chief, Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Scribe, Librarian and Order of the Arrow Representative. He was elected by the members of his troop to the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout honor society, and is a brotherhood member.
Spieker attended summer camp for several years at Canyon Camp in Elizabeth, IL, Camp Decorah in La Crosse, WI and Camp Ingawanis in Waverly. He also worked at Camp Ingawanis and Winnebago Scout Reserve in Marble Rock.
Spieker has earned a total of 37 merit badges, including Bird Study, Camping, Canoeing, Cinematography, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Collections, Communications, Computers, Disabilities Awareness, Dog Care, Electricity, Electronics, Emergency Preparedness, Engineering, Environmental Science, Family Life, Fingerprinting, First Aid, Forestry, Horsemanship, Indian Lore, Leatherwork, Metal Work, Nature, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Photography, Railroading, Salesmanship, Signaling, Space Exploration, Swimming, Traffic Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Wood Carving.
