Thirteen-year-old Hannah Garbes diagnosed with leukemia; Benefit event set for October 3

Hannah Garbes, the 13-year-old daughter of Brent and Marty Garbes of Waukon and an eighth grade student at the junior high school in Waukon, was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia June 18 of this year. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Garbes enjoys playing softball, riding her dirt bike and her go-cart, and loves the freedom and space she has to do these activities on the family dairy farm in rural Waukon. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family - especially her two-year-old niece, Kaylin, and her dog, Copper. She likes to go mushroom hunting, blueberry picking, deer hunting, and playing video games. She is also currently a member of the Confirmation class at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in McGregor.
A benefit event is being held at the Waukon Banquet Center Sunday, October 3 for Garbes in an attempt to raise funds to help her and her family pay for medical and other expenses related to her treatment. The event will take place from 12-6 p.m.
