Waukon High School to celebrate Homecoming 2012 during next week

Waukon High School will celebrate Homecoming 2012 throughout this next week, September 8-14, and the community is invited and encouraged to take part in the variety of activities being offered during the annual event.
This year’s theme is “Pound the Panthers”. The Waukon Indian football team will be taking on the Central Spring (Manly) Panthers for the very first time in the Friday, September 14 Homecoming game as a result of the new districts this year in Iowa high school football.
Homecoming Week events will kick off with the annual dance Saturday, September 8 from 8-11 p.m. in the Junior High gym. The dance is open to students in grades 9-12. Students may bring alumni and out-of-town guests if they have been registered in the high school office by Thursday, September 6.  Doors will close at the dance at 9 p.m.
Waukon High School will be sponsoring a number of dress-up days throughout the week in celebration of Homecoming. Monday will be Nerd Day, Tuesday will be Tie-dye/ Toga Day; Wednesday will be Blast from the Past Day (including Western); Thursday will be Character Day; and Friday will be the traditional Orange and Black Day.
The week of festivities will also include hall decorating, downtown window painting throughout the week and the Burning of the "W" pep rally scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, September 13. The Burning of the "W" will feature recognition of the Homecoming court and fall athletic teams, with the band and cheerleaders fueling a night of school spirit. The pep rally will wrap up with the crowning of the 2012 Homecoming King and Queen followed by the traditional burning of the "W" behind the school, weather permitting.
