Waukon man airlifted with injuries after car vs. pedestrian accident

The Waukon Police Department reports that a Tuesday afternoon, March 29 accident resulted in injuries to a Waukon man. A report issued by Waukon Police indicates that Jay Runice, age 44, of Waukon was crossing First Avenue SW by the Kwik Star store when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Jeffery Haas, age 19, of rural Waukon.
The report indicates that Haas had been traveling north on Spring Avenue and made a left turn on to First Avenue SW and did not see Runice as he emerged from behind a vehicle that was stopped at the intersection stop sign of the two roadways.
Runice was initially treated at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon but then airlifted to an undisclosed hospital in LaCrosse, WI, where he remains a patient at the time of this printing. The accident remains under investigation by the Waukon Police Department and the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department.
