Waukon native Eric Haler mentoring National Police Force during current Air Force deployment to Afghanistan

Major Eric Haler, United States Air Force, is deployed to Gardez, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. For the next year, he will be embedded with the Afghanistan National Police, mentoring them on logistic operations. His mission is the establishment of the Afghanistan Ministry of Interior’s newest Regional Logistics Center, responsible for the repair of the police vehicles, weapons and communication equipment, as well as the storage and issuance of uniforms, fuel, ammunition and other critical items for all Afghan National Police units in eastern Afghanistan, covering Ghazni, Khost, Paktia and Paktika Provinces.
Major Haler is supporting the NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan and the Combined Security Transition Command in Afghanistan. He is responsible for a U.S. team of 11 personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force mentoring the Regional Supply Kandak (Kandak is the Afghan equivalent of a battalion) with 137 Afghan Police and civilians.
Major Haler is assigned to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. He attended 10 weeks of Combat Advisor Training in Ft. Polk, LA before deploying to Afghanistan. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1995 and from Iowa State University in 2000.
Major Haler's parents are Don and DiAnne Haler of Waukon and his grandparents are the late George and Phyllis Haler and the late Lloyd and Elaine Weber.
