Waukon teen accepted as State Finalist in National American Miss Iowa pageant

Kelly Politowitz, a Waukon High School junior and the 17-year-old daughter of Ed and Darla Politowitz of Waukon, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Iowa state pageant to be held June 26-27 at the Bucksbaum Fine Arts Center on the campus of Grinnell College in Grinnell.
The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4-18 and have five different age divisions. Politowitz will be competing in the Teen division against other young ladies from across the state of Iowa. The winner of the pageant will receive $1,000 cash, the official crown and banner, a trophy, roses, and her air transportation and sponsor fees paid to compete in the national pageant in California, where she will also receive a complimentary tour of Hollywood and two free tickets to Disneyland.
The National American Miss pageants are dedicated to celebrating America's future leaders and equipping them with lifelong skills. Emphasis is put on the importance of gaining self confidence, learning good sportsmanship, and setting and achieving personal goals.

At Waukon High School, Politowitz is involved in such activities as cheerleading, speech, choir and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She also enjoys photography and reading, and being with family and friends, and she is currently employed at Fareway in her spare time.
