Waukon teen injured by train near Lansing

Saturday, May 7 at approximately 4:16 p.m., the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office received a report of a young female being struck by a train south of Lansing near the Alliant Energy Lansing Power Station. The report from the Sheriff's Office indicates that 18-year old Realynn Ann Hawkins, a senior at Waukon High School, was fishing off a railroad bridge near the powerplant and was struck by the southbound train while trying to retrieve her fishing gear near the train tracks.
Hawkins was airlifted from the scene of the accident to Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI, where she was most recently listed in fair condition as of print deadline Tuesday morning, May 10.
The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Lansing Ambulance, Lansing and New Albin Police Departments, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
