Waukon's Denzel Decker creates winning design for "Get Your Rear in Gear" 2012 Kids Fun Run t-shirts

In late 2011, "Get Your Rear in Gear" held a t-shirt design contest for the 2012 Kids’ Fun Run t-shirts. Entries came in from across the country and when the voting was over, Waukon youth Denzel Decker’s design rose to the top. Decker’s winning artwork is featured on the kids’ t-shirts that will be distributed at over 40 Get Your Rear in Gear events in 2012.
Decker, eight-year-old son of Brad and Becky Decker of Waukon, has participated in the Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear in Gear event in Waukon for two years. “I think it’s cool my picture was chosen to be on the Get Your Rear in Gear t-shirts this year,” said Denzel. “The race is fun to run and is important to many people.” Becky Decker, Denzel’s mom, shared that they have a close family friend who has been living with colon cancer. The Decker family has volunteered with the Northeast Iowa 5K and Denzel has also run in the Kid’s Fun Run.
The Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear in Gear will be held Saturday, October 6 at St. Patrick’s School in Waukon. For more information about the race, visit GetYourRearinGear.com/events. Registration information about the October 6 event will be published in future issues of The Standard.
Entries to the contest were submitted to Get Your Rear in Gear, the finalists were then posted on the organization’s Facebook page for voting. The design that received the most “Likes” during the voting round was declared the winner. For winning the contest, Decker’s design is featured on the Kids’ Fun Run t-shirts given away at all Get Your Rear in Gear races in 2012. He also receives a free t-shirt with his design, and free entry into the Get Your Rear in Gear Kids’ Fun Run of his choice.
